The emergency number in Spain is 112. Call 112 for police, ambulance, fire services or coastguard if you find yourself in an emergency situation in Spain. The equivalent of 999 in the UK or 911 in the USA, 112 is the general emergency telephone contact number to call if you have an emergency in Spain and anywhere in Europe.
How do I contact the Spanish police?
• For all urgent care and emergencies in Spain, such as the need for an ambulance, police attention, or the fire brigade, dial 112. 
• To report an assault or crime to the police, dial 902 102 112. • For motor vehicle accidents, traffic reports, or weather related emergencies, dial 011.
How do I contact the police in Spain from UK?
Reporting crime – In any emergency, call 112. To report a crime, including stolen property and lost or stolen passports, visit the nearest Policia Nacional, regional police (Ertzaintza in the Basque Country, Mossos d’Esquadra in Catalonia, and Policia Foral in Navarre) or Guardia Civil Station to file a police report (denuncia).
Some Spanish cities also offer a ‘Foreign Tourist Assistance Service (SATE – Servicio de Atención al Turista Extranjero) run by the Town Hall and National Police where foreign tourists can report crimes in a variety of languages, including English.
While in Spain, you can also call a dedicated English-speaking police line on +34 90 210 2112 from 9am – 9pm 7 days a week, or file a police report online for minor offences such as bag or car theft. Be aware that violent crime or sexual assault must be reported in person at the nearest police station.

112 is a common emergency telephone number that can be dialed free of charge from most mobile telephones, and in some countries, fixed telephones in order to reach emergency services (ambulance, fire and rescue, police).
What happens if you call 112 by mistake?
Penalties for 112 abuse – Abuse of 112 is a criminal offence. The police will track down anyone who calls 112 for reasons other than those for which it was intended. In cases of abuse the police can request data from the emergency call centre to trace the identity of the caller.
Does 112 track your location?

- 1) How to text 999 If you find yourself in a situation where you’re unable to speak, you do have the option to text 999;
- However, this will take longer than caller them directly;
- To do so, you must already be registered with the emergencySMS service so make sure you text ‘register’ to 999 and follow the instructions you are sent;
When an emergency happens, you should create a text that contains the name of the service you require, what the problem is and the location. The emergency services will then reply to you asking either for more information or to tell you that help is on its way.
2) The emergency number you need when travelling A surprising number of people are completely unaware of who to call in case of an emergency abroad but if you’re travelling in the EU then 112 is your life-saving number.
You can call 112 with no charge and will be put through to a specially trained operator who will deal with your request or transfer the call to the most appropriate emergency service. If you don’t know where you are, the operator will identify your location.

Free to download, the app works around the globe and warns you of any emergencies that might be near by including floods, earthquakes, storms or avalanches. You can also look anywhere in the world and tap on an alert to get a profile of it including how long the alert has been active and how serious it is.
5) What to do if you need help but can’t talk There may come a time when you need to call the emergency services but doing so could put you, or those around you, in even more danger. The solution? Dial 55.
When you call 999, an operator will ask which service you require. If you remain silent and it’s an emergency, you’ll be asked to cough or make some other audible sound without speaking. But if making any noise at all might put you at risk the answer is to dial ‘55′.
If after calling 999 you haven’t been able to signal to the operator that your call is an emergency by coughing, you’ll be put through to an operating system. At this point you need to dial ‘55′, otherwise the call will be ended.

Is 112 the same as 911?
